Rail Track Diaries. The Travel Log

RTD Great Britain

Entry 01: Riding the Eurostar! Pt. 1

This year, I finally crammed a vacation into my calendar, bought an Interrail Global Pass, and found myself stringing together numerous cities/stops for my first personal British experience.

Entry 02: A London Adventure Story

On my budget, overnight conditions aren't ideal. Luckily, I spend most of my time on the London bus, embracing a varied and exciting scenery.

Entry 03: Lawyers, Escorts, Friends – and So-Called Elgin Marbles

For wholly innocent budgetary reasons I find myself at an expensive bar in London's highest building. Also: a meeting with old friends and a visit to the "Elgin Marbles."

Entry 04: At the Liverpool Pod

I'll be in Liverpool for the weekend. Thus, my stay is mostly organized around a football match. The thing Liverpool really is famous for, or is it?

Entry 05: Samedi Midi Football

A place like Anfield stadium inspires sentiments you'd be hard-pressed to relate to anybody who hasn't been socialized through football.

Entry 06: Airbnb Beckham vs. Celtic Football

Tired, from long walks, windy days and drawn-out thoughts, I find myself regressing on a foreign couch, in a stranger's living room: Netflix' Beckham is on.

Entry 07: Hiking Along and Above Loch Lomond

Alternating between a whistle and humming a tune. Engulfed by layers of green, I feel packed tight in a soft blanket, not willing to blow the cover just yet.

Entry 08: I Call Her Ellie

Ellie asks me what time it is. Her phone battery has left her dead and the scheduled bus never came. "Without this" (points at her black screen) "you're lost."

Entry 09: With Regards to Edinburgh ... and what Came After

Edinburgh, to a degree, is just this one stop too much – the one that feels unneeded. Forced. After the honesty of Glasgow, Edinburgh feels untrue to me.

Entry 10: Halloween House Party

The enormity of London is ultimately revealed to me when I try to be one of (what looks like) millions of Londoners late for their Halloween parties.

Entry 11: Riding the Eurostar! Pt. 2

The Eurostar speeds on with palpable velocity. My ears keep clogging from the pressure again – as British pasture dissolves into various shapes of green.
